Symptom:
Customer tells the technician he has poor CD/DVD drive performance, and in addition the HDD might be functioning slower than normal.
Versions Affected:
OnDemand 5, Shopkey 5 (all versions).
This will work on Windows 2000 and XP.
Solution:
- Right-Click on My Computer and go to Properties.
- Go to Device Manager.
- Go to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
- Right-Click on both Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel. Go to Properties> Advanced Settings. The devices listed need to have a transfer mode of DMA. If not, they might say PIO, follow steps 5 – 8, to change to DMA.
- Close the properties Windows for the Channels.
- Right-Click on each IDE Channel separately and choose Uninstall.
- Reboot computer when done.
- Once restarted, the computer will install new drivers for the CD/DVD devices, and restart again.
- Once restarted, follow steps 1 – 4.
- Verify the Transfer Modes are DMA.
- Finished.
