Recordset Cannot Be Opened – Diagnostic Number 5356

ERROR 5356 WHEN LAUNCHING MGR WORKSTATION

Symptom:

The following error occurs when trying to open the Management program:

A severe error has occurred in the application. Continued operation is not possible. You will have to restart the application. Recordset cannot be opened, “x:\Mitchell1\Manager\Series2\mdb\Series20.inf” Diagnostic number: 5356 Diagnostic Category: ODBC Database”.

Product: Manager/Manager Plus, Shopkey Service Writer/Management. (all versions)

Solution:

1. The most common reason this error occurs is because the mapped network drive listed in ‘Computer’ or ‘My Computer’ is not accessible. The drive may show a red ‘X’ or disconnected status, or may no longer exist. First, note the drive letter that appears in the actual error message. Ensure that same drive letter shows for the mapped drive when verifying through ‘My Computer’ and that the mapped drive still exists. If it exists and is the same drive letter, double click the drive to make sure it is working. Remap the drive if missing, making sure you use the same drive letter indicated in the error message.

2. If mapped correctly, and it still does not work – reinstall workstation.

If the issue occurs repeatedly, make certain the network is not being disconnected due to power saving settings:
1. Go into the Device Manager, ‘right click’ on the Network adapter and select ‘Properties’.
2. Select the ‘Power Management’ tab and uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” then click OK.

Now, the Host PC should be able to go into ‘sleep’ mode without disconnecting any of the workstations.
