Installshield Error 1158

Symptom:
When running the installation of the program either through auto run, or by directly accessing the setup.exe by exploring the CD, the following error occurs:

“Installshield error 1158 cannot continue with installation”

Versions affected: Ondemand5, Shopkey5 Desktop, Ondemand5 Shopkey5 Transmission, OD5, SK5 Medium Truck current versions.

Solution:
On some windows systems there is a strange anomaly that occurs when the Installshield is attempting to run a setup.exe file for an application. Installshield typically looks for that particular application’s ‘setup.inf’ file and instead of interpreting the text instructions in a defined language, i.e. ‘English’ Installshield ‘sees’ it in another language other than the language setting of the operating system.

First, ensure the regional and language options are set for “English/United States” which could possibly cause the issue.

If this doesn’t work, then in all likelihood, the problem is with the Installshield and its inability to interpret the language for the setup.inf file as described above. In this case you need to do the following.

Go to Start>Run then type the drive letter i.e. “D:\setup.exe /L1033.”

Windows has the capability of running a setup file, using the ‘language switch’ which is what the ‘L1033’ switch is, the language switch for ‘English’. So, when Installshield has an issue with running the setup file due to some unknown reason that it can’t identify the correct language, the switch can be used to tell it what language should be used.
